How Do Law Schools Feel About the GRE

Law schools are still undecided whether or not to accept the GRE. Kaplan Test Prep surveyed 125 U.S. law schools on whether or not they plan to allow applicants to submit GRE scores instead of LSAT scores (following in the footsteps of the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law who adopted this practice back in February). Here are some highlights from the report: †¢ 56% of law schools have no plans to adopt this new policy. †¢Ã‚  14% plan on allowing GRE score submissions. †¢ 30% of law schools arent sure what theyll do in this regard. †¢ 70% called the LSAT a more appropriate test for law school admissions. †¢ 53% felt that the American Bar Association shouldnt mandate that law schools can only accept the LSAT. †¢ 80% of admissions officers say that law schools that accept the GRE might do so because they â€Å"want a more diverse pool of applicants and students.† †¢ Others say that schools may accept GRE scores because they are â€Å"concerned about filling seats because of dropping/stagnant application numbers.† †¢ 70% say that accepting GRE scores would allow schools to accept less qualified students without their low stats affecting their rankings, since U.S. News World Report doesn’t yet factor GRE scores into their rankings. â€Å"Right now, there doesn’t seem to be any great enthusiasm by law schools to adopt the GRE as an alternative to the LSAT, which isn’t too surprising considering that law schools tend to be judicious, wanting to see all evidence and research before making an important decision like this,† says Jeff Thomas, Kaplan Test Preps executive director of pre-law programs. â€Å"What’s particularly interesting is that nearly a third of law schools say they are unsure if they will accept the GRE, as opposed to simply being against it, which suggests that the pro-GRE movement has room to grow. We’ll be watching developments closely so that pre-law students have the most accurate and up-to-date information to make good decisions.† See the Kaplan press release for more details. I find it interesting that 70% feel that the LSAT is the â€Å"more appropriate test,† but 14% plan to allow GRE score submissions and 30% are unsure what they will do. That means many of those who feel the LSAT is the more valid test are still willing to consider the GRE. Furthermore 70% see benefits to accepting the GRE in the form of a more diverse class and the ability to accept less qualified students (or at least those with poorer test scores) without those scores affecting their U.S. News ranking. Folks, there is disconnect in those numbers. I asked Kaplan if they have numbers on GRE adoption by business schools when MBA programs started to accept the GRE in addition to the GMAT, a test geared specifically for graduate management education. Russell Schaffer of Kaplan responded that in 2009 Kaplan’s survey found only a quarter (24%) of business schools allowed students to submit a GRE score. Today 90% of U.S. business schools accept the GRE in addition to the GMAT. I don’t believe the law school survey is inaccurate. I do believe there is a good chance given the decline in law school numbers and the role of the LSAT in the U.S. News law school ranking, that this survey is not the last word on GRE acceptance by law schools. People, including those who run law schools, can change their minds. Stay tuned. Spoon River Analogy Essay - 1751 Words

Spoon River Analysis Zilpha Marsh Of all the characters in Spoon River, only one has the key ingredient that makes the book complete; that person is Zilpha Marsh. Even though Zilpha is mentioned only once within the book, she represents a controversial issue debated everywhere and can be related to people in real life. Zilpha represents mystery, supernatural, and spiritual beings, every word that is written about her suggest a deeper and more complex meaning; her entire character permeates an eerie feeling that adds the extra spice to Soon River. Zilpha is the only character that follows a different pattern and has the most character within a poem. Although the poem stated nothing about her death, family, friends, or even her life, the†¦show more content†¦Oxymorons were used towards the end of the poem when Zilpha was talking to the townspeople and she saidÂ…and suppose I see what you never sawÂ… Also Paronomasia was used when mention of the spirits Zilpha heard occurred (Chaucer, Caesar, Poe, and Marlowe). A hyperbole appeared when the term nonsense was being repeated nonsenseÂ…. never heard of and no word for. Other terms were Archaism and Anacoluthon. In the poem the word planchette is used to describe what we call today the arrow on the Ouija board and when the poem describes stricken fields, it is referring to barren fields; both of these examples are Archaisms. An example of an Anacoluthon would be You talk nonsense to children, dont you? All of these rhetorical terms used in the poem created a pleasant reading situation which bettered the overall effect of Zilpha Marsh. Once the surface of Zilpha Marsh was covered, the reader could then begin to start his/her own analysis. With the setting set to super freaky and the terminology broken down the analysis of Zilpha begins. The Commonwealth Of Australia Constitution Act - 2313 Words

Introduction In order to know whether or not the Justice Knows No Walls Reform Act (â€Å"the Act†) can be constitutionally applied to the States. We need to consider if the Act will interfere or restrict the States power over prisons. In Queensland there is already a legislation that protects the rights of prisoners this is the Queensland Corrective Services Act 2006 (QCAct). The Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act (Constitution) has to support the implementation of the Act and/or its purpose without affecting the rights of the State law, what also needs to be taken into consideration is the nature of the ri7lghts, duties, powers and privileges which it changes, regulates or abolishes Fairfax v Federal Commissioner of Taxation (1965) 114 CLR 1. The States are allowed to make laws that are required within their state. The Constitution left most of the other law-making powers to the states so they are able to define the Federal laws. If a specific area of law falls within the States Powers and the Federal Government wish to make laws concerning any of the States area of expertise, the Federal Government needs to have an agreement with the States. Marketing Strategy Victoria Secret free essay sample

Victorias Secret was started in San Francisco, California, in 1977 by Roy Raymond who was Business alumnus of Tufts University and Stanford Graduate School. He felt embarrassed trying to purchase lingerie for his wife in a department store environment. He opened the first store at Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, and quickly followed it with a mail-order catalog and three other stores. With this store he hoped that it could create a comfortable environment for men, with wood-paneled walls, Victorian details and helpful sales staff. Instead of racks of bras and panties in every size, there were single styles, paired together and mounted on the wall in frames. Men could browse for styles for women and sales staff would help estimate the appropriate size, pulling from inventory in the back rooms. Using An APA Paper Sample For Your Writers Self-Test

Using An APA Paper Sample For Your Writer's Self-TestAn APA paper sample would come in handy for all you aspiring copywriters. Paper samples can also be used to gauge the writers' writing abilities, and to help them understand how to market their own writing work. It is always a good idea to make a test of your own skill before looking for a full-time job.A sample paper is a type of article that makes use of a simple format, with a common structure and subject matter. Each sample article includes sections that allow the writer to present his or her thoughts and also offers examples to show you what the way a specific story should end. Even the sentences need to appear in the same manner that the writer intended them to do. It is therefore important that a copywriter not simply use a sample as a promotional tool. This is because there is a difference between writing and copying other people's work.Writing is the ability to express ideas in a unique and creative way. The writer needs t o know how to write such ideas and how to integrate them into the article. Copying another people's work is not sufficient, as a true copywriter needs to tell his or her own thoughts and develop the idea into a whole. That means a lot of thought has to go into the work, as well as a strong understanding of the details of the topic. With paper samples, there are different templates that you can choose from. You can choose between heading style, copy form, 'a' page, articles, one-line story, main story, titles, headings, subheadings, use of bold, bullet, and italics. These types of templates can give you a feel for the page you are writing. For example, if you are looking for titles, you can try out the 'Titles and Footers' template to get an idea of how much your story will be stretched out with the use of titles. After choosing the template, you can then edit the document in Adobe Acrobat. There are lots of templates to choose from, but you have to think about the kind of work you wil l be doing. If you plan to make a very long paper, using several types of templates may not be ideal. You can opt for the 'Subheadings' template, which allows you to decide the format you will use for each subheading. You can also learn more about each template by clicking on its header.Once you have the template and edited the document, you will then need to prepare the sample. Most of the sample websites will ask you to choose the word or phrase you would like to use in the paper. Just choose your words carefully and make sure that they make sense. This is because your writing will be used as a 'test' for the writer to see how well they can write a story using that paragraph. Also, make sure that the sample consists of only a few sentences that can easily be cut and pasted into the final document. Finally, select your best writing style for the sample, and also write in your own style of speech. This will make the writing fit well together and give you a strong personal voice for t he story.
